We have a few deck rule changes coming for the 2027 Prize Tour, and we want every Coach to see them early. We don’t think there’s anything here folks will hate, but sometimes we’re wrong.
All changes below take effect January 1, 2027.
All Competitive Formats Move to "Singleton" Heroes
You asked. We listened. More Heroes, more possibilities, and fewer deckbuilding restrictions in 2027!
One of the most requested changes from the BoBA community is finally here. We're simplifying Hero deckbuilding across all competitive formats and giving coaches more freedom to build with their favorite cards. The old rule: Hero variations were restricted based on their artwork name, Weapon Type, and Power, with additional restrictions on how many versions of a Hero could be included. The new rule: You may include only one copy of any exact Hero card in your deck. If two Hero cards are different, both are legal! That means you can now run a BoJax Alpha Glow Lino alongside a BoJax Alpha Glow Rad. Want to add a BoJax Alpha Glow Green Battlefoil or a Glow Inspired Ink? Go for it! One important restriction remains: You may still include a maximum of six Heroes of the same Power value in your deck. More freedom. More variety. More ways to build your ultimate lineup. Same six-per-Power limit. A whole lot more possibilities. One Card Above 200 Power Per Deck
Going forward, each Madness team deck can contain only 1 card above 200 power, for a maximum of 4 across the team.
All other formats also have a limit of 1 card above 200 power per deck.
These cards are very rare, and we’re comfortable embracing these game breakers in Apex formats. But as BoBA keeps growing, we want these overpowered cards to create fun, memorable moments without becoming toxic to our signature formats.
No More Unlocked Card Restrictions Across Apex Madness Teams
Previously, Apex Madness teams couldn’t duplicate Apex-tier cards above 160 power (“unlocked” cards) across team decks.
That restriction is gone.
For example, two members of the same Apex Madness team can now both run a Mahomes Hex Auto, subject to all other deck rules. Before, only one team member could use that card.
This should make deck building a lot simpler for teams.
Blast Decks Go to 60 Heroes
- Blast decks move to the standard 60-card format.
- Blast Playmakers must use HTD plays.
- All Blast formats require Blast Hot Dogs where applicable (Substitution/Playmaker).
Introducing Blast Madness for 2027!
Madness is coming to Blast for the first time in 2027, bringing a new team competition where both ends of the Power spectrum matter. Blast Madness introduces a 2 High / 2 Low structure. Two team members compete for the highest Power, while the other two compete for the lowest. Teams will need to master both sides of the game to come out on top. And, in true Madness tradition, all team members must flex their four favorite Blast Hot Dogs! What’s Next
We have more team meetings before the end of the year, so there may be other updates. But this is everything we have right now, and we didn’t want to sit on the changes we know are coming.
Don’t tear down your Tecmo decks yet. We know Tecmo is on the back burner for a lot of Coaches right now. But we love the flag we planted with that set to celebrate Bo’s legacy, and we want more boxes ripped in the chase for the /34 Bo autos. (Someone around here is hoping to buy a PSA 10 off whoever pulls one.)
Tecmo events will be featured again at the National 2027, both Solo and Team. Exact formats are TBD.
We think these changes set us up well for the road ahead. See you in the Arena!
